Types of Counselors
PSU offers programs for several types of Counselors, including Pastoral Counselors, Job Counselors, Consultants and Individual Home Based Tutors. See the links at the bottom of any page here for examples.
Tutors generally help individuals or teams with certain subjects such as Math, Athletics, Languages, Shop, History, Exam Preparation, and many others. These range from very young pre-school children all the way up to older adults seeking new or second careers. Tutoring can be advertised with an individual practice, or posted at schools, churches, sports events, stores, colleges and many other places. Most tutors work from home, although some of our grads have opened office based practices and even schools.
Pastoral Counselors help individuals and couples in many areas, and to avoid regulatory action in some States, often specialize in "secular" add areas such as job and career counseling and financial consulting. These can be in home or office based practices, and independent or associated with a clinic, hospice or church. PSU's program has a higher number of PC's in the area of serious illness counseling than any other program.
Consultants generally work in math, business, finance, and other areas, either out of home or associated with a company or their own office. Investment consulting is particularly important today with the uncertain economy and financial markets.
